The Secret To A Powerful Social Bookmarking Strategy

December 7th, 2009 · No Comments · Web Development

Anybody who is successful in life will tell you, Strategy is the secret! If you crave to have any sort of success you need to first have a plan. This is true for everything from Education, to Jobs, to your Family and Your Personal Goals, you MUST have a plan to succeed. Today I want to apply this principle to Internet Marketing, specifically the using of a Social Bookmarking Strategy to bring Web Traffic to your Site.

Many people have a website these days, but how many of those people have any idea what their long term goals are for their Site? I’d say, not many. The Internet is currently overpopulated with Affiliate Marketers, and while it is certainly not impossible to make a living working as an Affiliate, it can be extremely difficult. That is why it is even more important for you to have some specific goals planed out for your Site. What are your Keywords? Why did you choose them? Does your Keyword get search engine traffic? Does your Keyword Convert visitors? These are all very important questions to ask yourself. If you don’t know the answers you need to do more Keyword Research. Google has many tools available to help you, like their Google Adwords Keyword Tool.

Once you have your Keyword and you know it gets traffic and sells well, it is time to start planning your next move. Social Bookmarking is a proven method for getting visitors to your Site. Rather than just randomly submitting your Website to various Social Bookmarking sites you must have a complete Social Bookmarking Strategy planed out in advance.

Take a look at sites like Onlywire. Onlywire allows you to make accounts at tons of Social Bookmarking Sites and then submit your bookmarks to them. It is all streamlined and time saving, which is crucial to any online endeavor. Be sure to include in your Social Bookmarking Strategy that you need to bookmark your website’s main page first. Make sure the title you use is Keyword rich and that the description is something catchy that will grab people’s attention and make them want to visit your site. Use Tags that are broad rather than specific to insure more people find your website on these Bookmarking Sites.

If part of your marketing strategy includes Articles and RSS feeds, be sure to Social Bookmark all your Profile Pages of your Article and RSS Accounts. This does some added promotion to help get people find those feeds and articles, eventually bringing them back to your site. It also allows Search Engines to find you more easily by creating more backlinks to your site, which proves especially useful with Google. Make sure your profiles at your Article and RSS sites have a Profile Picture and that your profiles are completely filled out. Not only does this make you more legit, but it brings an added sense of trust from potential visitors.

Also, be sure you use different titles and descriptions in your Social Bookmarking Strategy. If everything is bookmarked with the same title, tags and description, it will look Spammy to both visitors and Search Engines. Beings blacklisted as Spam is the worst thing to have happen and something to absolutely avoid at all costs.

Be sure to include bookmarking any page that is pointing back to your main page in your Social Bookmarking Strategy. Do not bookmark a ton of different pages from your site, but rather Bookmark the pages of other sites that contain links with your main keyword to your Website. Promoting other sites that link to you will only help you rank higher in Search Engines, which can bring you lots of free web targeted traffic.
